ABCD Corp. Celebrates Annual Meeting and Presents Awards
Over 250 people attended the annual meeting of the Altoona-Blair County Development Corp. (ABCD Corp.) at the Casino at Lakemont. The Keynote Speaker for the event was Mr. Gus Faucher, Deputy Chief Economist for the PNC Financial Services Group. Mr. Faucher’s presentation highlighted the economic outlook for the US, Pennsylvania and Blair County.
Dan Hoover, Chairman of ABCD Corp. presented the organization’s annual report and highlighted the outcomes of 2015. Successes highlighted were:
• Groundbreaking of the Martin J. Marasco Business Park
• Groundbreaking for Laguna Splash at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park
• Groundbreaking for Wyndham by Wingate and Fairfield Inn & Suites and TownePlace Suites
• Completion of Convention Center Commons
• Pennsy Place building rehabilitation in Downtown Altoona
The results for 2015 include:
• Total Project Costs over $62 million
• Over 690 Jobs Created/Retained
• $20 million in Business Financing Support
The event was also highlighted by the presentation of ABCD Corp.’s Economic Development Partnership Awards to Donna Fisher, District Manager for the Blair County Conservation District, and Deputy Sec. Scott Dunkelberger from the PA Dept. of Community and Economic Development. The award is to presented in appreciation of these individual’s continued support of economic development for Blair County. Terry Lingenfelter, VP and Corporate Banker with First Commonwealth Bank was presented with the Richard L. McMaster Award for his years as a financial leader for Blair County.
In addition to the above mentioned awards, special recognition was given to Tim Sissler and Bill Hoyne during the event. Both Tim and Bill have served for a number of years on ABCD’s Executive Committee, Board of Directors and affiliated organizations. Both men are living legends in the banking and finance industry – and even into retirement their commitment towards this organization has not gone unnoticed.
The final award of the event was the Alexander A. Notopoulos Award for the Outstanding Business of the Year, which is named for Attorney Notopoulos as a tribute for his many years of dedicated service to Altoona Enterprises, Inc. and the Altoona/Blair County area. The 2015 recipient was presented to American Eagle Paper Mills and Mike Grimm, Pres/CEO accepted the award.
